EcoPro is a small working group of the Society "Caucasian Club" (SCC), one of the first registered NGOs in Georgia (1988). Founded by a group of volunteers working on the Transcaucasus Railway project, the SCC aims to preserve the nation's cultural and natural heritage, to advance humanitarian ideals in society, and to promote small initiative groups. In 1994 SCC established EcoPro, dedicated to developing Georgian standards for eco-tourism and later that year EcoPro received a small grant from ISAR to combine environmental protection with the development of tourism. With the support of the Guides and Scouts Association of Georgia and the municipal service of the Mtatsminda district, EcoPro organized a number of clean-up activities outside of Tbilisi. Teenagers pulled trash out of the beautiful Tsavkisi Canyon and participated in small lectures about transforming the cleaned paths into "greenways."
EcoPro aims to popularize the concepts of eco-tourism in the regions outside of Tbilisi. It has supported the establishment of a regional office at the Kazbegi Museum of Alpinism which will in the near future include training classes in different environmental fields, the renovation of the alpinism library, volunteer trail programs, and summer camps.
