Republic Belarus
The ecological centre, Polessie of Gomel in Belarus, is an independent social organization that has been working on ecological projects.The sphere of their interests are the protection of the environment, conservation of biological resources, monitoring long-term ecological studies and protected areas (including the effects of the Chernobyl catastrophe in the Gomel region), ecological education of the population, and working out new programmes and informational materials.
In terms of ecological education of the public, Polessie implements ecological consultations to various organizations and conducts children's programmes. They also sponsor seminars, publish works, interact with various international ecological organizations and deal with problems of ecological education and protection of environment. They hope to influence public opinion by educating them on the ecological issues and problems facing Belarus.
