Youth for Armenia

Mission:
Youth for Armenia Association was formed with a mission to promote ideas of democracy, freedom and humanism and also provide help to our newly formed republic. Besides, members of YFA share the experience gained during the academic year in the US high schools with Armenians, young and old.

Membership:
At the present time, we have 54 members. To become a member of the Youth for Armenia Association one has to spend at least 6 months in American high school. The main reason for this membership requirement is the philosophy of the Association based on the understanding of democratic processes.

Accomplished Projects:

• Assisted the World Learning, Inc. and ACCELS/ACTR in recruitment and orientation for the Freedom Support Act High School Exchange Program (1994, 1995, 1996,)
• Courses of English Language and American Culture for the staff of the Ministry of Energy and Fuel sponsored by USIS (January 1995)
• "Let's speak American" Game-Contest at the Institute of Foreign Languages after Brusov sponsored by USIS (April 1995)
• Tree-planting project in Gyumri in cooperation with Armenian Assembly of America Tree Project (April 1995)
• Courses of English Language and American Culture for the staff of the Ministry of Health sponsored by USIS (May 1995)
• "Transcaucasus in Transition" Youth Seminar held in Tbilisi, Georgia between FSYE participants from Armenia, Georgia and Azerbaijan sponsored by USIA in Washington DC and USIS offices in Armenia, Azerbaijan and Georgia (September 1995)
• Fundraising Benevolent Discotheques held in cooperation with American University of Armenia. The proceedings went to support Zatik orphanage (Nov, Dec- 95; Feb, Apr. Nov, Dec - 96).
• Courses of English Language and American Culture for the staff of the Central Bank of Armenia sponsored by USIS (December 1995, March-April, October-November-December - 1996)
• Tree-planting project in Yerevan at military academy in cooperation with Armenian Assembly of America Tree Project (November 1996)
• Courses of English language for women activists and women NGO members sponsored by USIS (Spring-Summer 1996)
• Participated in "Shifting the Paradigm of Democracy" conference in Tbilisi, Georgia; sponsored by USIA. (January 1997)

Future Plans:
Our future plans are to continue implementing benevolent, educational and intercultural projects on an advanced level using the experience acquired in the last two years. We have also mapped out to cooperate with similar youth organizations within the CIS as well as worldwide. We are open for collaboration with interested institutions.
