Youth Club Aragast

The Aragast youth club was founded in 1994 by young people from Switzerland and Armenia. Every Sunday the club organizes activities which offer young people (16-30 years old) an opportunity to socialize. The club also organizes activities which offer members an opportunity to participate in social and cultural activities in Armenia and international exchange projects.

Aragast volunteers organize handicraft programs at the Zatik orphanage in Yerevan. They have also initiated educational programs for refugee children and a dental program for street children in the Zeitun and Vartashen neighborhoods in Yerevan. It is working with the Union of Youth Organizations in Nagorno- Karabagh to develop educational, handicraft and social programs for refugee children and orphans in the region. The club organized a tree planting project in Vanadzor in northern Armenia. For the past four years Aragast, along with local TV and radio stations, has organized a rock festival in Yerevan. It also puts together exhibitions for young artists.

The club's international exchange programs include summer camps at Lake Sevan, Internet access and training programs, and English, French and German language classes.

The club has more than 120 members and 20 regular volunteers who manage the club's projects. The club works with a support committee in Switzerland and has a representative in the U.S.
