HABARLAR-L

Habarlar-L is an electronic mailing list which focuses on Azerbaijan. While there is some discussion, most of the traffic consists of news items. Of special interest are two weekly postings, one of which offers broader regional coverage:

Transcaucasia Media Project
TMP consists of annotated daily headlines of the Transcaucasian press compiled by the Caucasian Institute for Peace, Democracy and Development in Tbilisi. Each week TMP includes 10-15 press headlines and a one paragraph summary of the major news stories in Armenia, Azerbaijan, and Georgia. The stories selected tend to focus on such issues as: political news, political prisoners, political parties, media freedom, and assorted general economic and social news.

Azerbaijan News
Each week Eldar E. Zeynalov of the Human Rights Center in Baku collects stories and excerpts from Azerbaijan news agencies. Regular categories include: War & Peace, Ecology, Social Problems, Media, Nationalities, and Humanitarian Assistance. Mr. Zeynalov's bulletin is posted on Habarlar-L in its entirety as a transliterated-Russian document. Sometimes, Habarlar-L's editor also posts the headlines for each story in English.
