CharityNet is a World Wide Web site with scads of information about foundations and NGOs in the United Kingdom. The site is maintained by the Charities Aid Foundation (CAF), which provides in the UK many of the services performed in the U.S by United Way, the Council on Foundations, and Independent Sector. At CharityNet you will find:

Links to Web sites of 700 UK foundations and NGOs
A Charity Search Engine through which you can access the names and contact information for over 70,000 British NGOs. (We did a search for “Russia” and came up with 21 organizations.)
Information about CAF's very active projects in Russia

Perhaps of special interest to people in the NIS is a series of weekly newspaper articles written for a major London paper which seek to provide the general public with a better understanding of the role and structure of charitable organizations in British society.

CharityNet also hosts the Web site of Charity Know How, which is one of the major European funding organizations active in Eastern Europe and the NIS. Available here are the grant guidelines and a brief listing of previous grants made. The Charity Know How home page is located at:
