This little booklet, whose title in English would be Electronic Networking Options in Russia, was written by Evgeniy Yakushev of the Foundation for Agrarian Development Research (FADR) in Moscow, with the editorial assistance of A. O. Makeeva and D. N. Durmanova. The project was carried out under a contract between FADR, the Russian Foundation for Basic Research, and World Learning, with funds from USAID.

Electronic Networking Options in Russia is a clearly written and well-organized introduction to the Internet. Its author, who is deputy director of FADR, covers all the important aspects of the Internet and includes eight pages on the development of telecommunications in Russia. One learns that as of the summer of 1994 Russia had 206 computer networks linked to the Internet, in comparison to 304 for the Czech Republic and 19,689 for the U.S. There is also a table comparing the prices and levels of service offered by seven different Internet access providers in Russia. Although prices are changing rapidly in Russia--those in the table were as of early 1995--the table still can help a resident of Russia compare the relative costs of different services and decide which access provider is most suited to his or her needs.
