Our first issue of Net Talk last month described how to use the powerful "Gopher" system for accessing files and materials on the Internet worldwide. In this and subsequent issues, we will profile particularly fruitful or interesting Gopher sites we have
learned about. Below we describe the Sabre Foundation’s recently-established Gopher site. Next month’s Net Talk will profile another important one, known as Friends and Partners.
Sabre Foundation, Inc., based in Cambridge, MA, has recently established a Gopher site, and will be adding resources to it continually under its Technical Assistance Program (TAP) and FAQ ( Frequently-Asked-Questions) project. For example, one file on-line already is an annotated listing of North American Study Centers in Eastern Europe and the former Soviet Union. Organized by country, from Albania to Ukraine, it contains 104 entries; e. g., Russia has 17.
Sabre is a charitable organization active in educational support to universities and libraries around the world, primarily in formerly closed societies. For more information, contact Sabre at 872 Massachusetts Ave., Suite 2-1, Cambridge, MA 02139. Tel. (617) 868-3510 or fax (617) 868-7916. E-mail: [email protected].
At the first menu, select "Non-Profit Organizations." This leads to a second menu with a line for Sabre Foundation, which is the entry point to their material.
