I am presently working for the Anglican (Episcoplian) Social Responsibilities Commission in Western Australia, and Anglicare. working on issues such a social well-being indicators and trying to assist Anglicare plan the location and types of services needed in the future. I have become very interested in Robert Putnam's work on civil society, which was picked up by Eva Cox in her Boyer Lectures here in Australia in 1995.
I am studing economic sociology (master degree) and I want to do a working paper about the "third sector" in EUA and Europe (a comparative perspective), so I apreciate any help. Thank you very much for this opportunity.
I wish we had the full access to any directory of NGOs in both America and Europe. I work for an NGO info+tech resource centre, that's why I am searching for partners to help out information lack problems and to cross them with Latvian NGOs in order to help out their particular problems/needs. I am a bit disappointed with the fact that Latvia is still remaining among the most untouched states in terms of programmes of Western NGO partnership. A couple of the US governmental investments into the Latvian civic sector seem surprisingly alone and stripped of any US/Western private initiative in Latvia, who needs a friendly hand to get out of the Soviet legacy within the problematique of the civic society dev't.
Thanks for all your help with our homepage.

Visit the Rural Development Institute's new website also located on the Friends and Partners Web Server:

This web page is just a wonderful source of information for those who is concerned about the FSU. But I have noticed that most of it is related to Russia and I wish there is more information Central Asia, especially on Kyrgyzstan where I am from. The world does not know much about my country. Also, as a Soviet born ethnic Korean I am especially concerned about the problems of Soviet non-Russian minorities.I would be glad if there is a deeper observation on the Soviet-related issues on this web site. Any considerations or comments on the thought will be highly appreciated and kindly responded.
Thanks for your great job.
CCSI responds:
We appreciate your observations. This summer, Dana Tumenova, a native of Kazakstan, began a project to expand our knowledge of organizations working in Central Asia. Dana collected information about a number of new organizations which we have added to the website, and have been added to our database for future editions of the Post-Soviet Handbook. CCSI is also in the beginning stages of planning a book similar to the Post-Soviet Handbook, but focusing on the Central Asian states of the former Soviet Union. Information on Central Asian NGOs is hard to come by. As usual, we would be happy to receive any information on organizations or projects in this area.
I find this site to be exciting, and I do enjoy reading everyone's comments. In August 1995 I traveled to Tyumen, my first trip to Siberia. The trip afforded me an opportunity to see some of Russia and learn something of the asperation of the people . At that time I was not on the internet, nor was I using e-mail, otherwise I would have made some arrangements to stay in contact with new friends. Thanks. Max Stool
