This list is to facilitate discussion among persons and organizations who are interested in business and environmental issues in Central and Eastern Europe (CEE) to include the following countries: Albania, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland, Romania, Slovak Republic, Slovenia, and the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia. The main mission of this list is to promote cooperation among diverse environmental groups and interests in Central and Eastern Europe; to act as a catalyst for developing solutions to environmental problems in this region; and to promote the development of a civil society. The REC believes that before sustained environmental progress can be achieved in the CEE, it is necessary to promote the development of a strong environmental business sector. Environmental professionals are essential for the practical implementation of environmental policies, regulations, and innovative ideas in the industrial and urban settings. This list is the first attempt by the Regional Environmental Center for Central and Eastern Europe (REC) to encourage businesses to join the dialogue in the CEE.
With this in mind, this list hopes to encourage dialogue between environmental professionals and organizations in the CEE and from around the world with a focus on CEE environmental problems. Some of the topics that might be discussed on BIS will be related to the CEE and include:
- available environmental services in CEE
- available technologies for environmental protection in CEE
- available `green' products.
