Micro-Finance Links

The following are links to Web sites about micro-finance compiled by Maryellen Lewis at the Michigan State University Center for Urban Affairs:

The Centre for Micro-Finance

http://www.south-asia.com/cmf/ Nepal's own homepage on micro-finance, with information mainly drawn from the work of CECI. Back copies of Common Interest are also available here.

The Virtual Library on Micro credit

http://www.soc.titech.ac.jp/icm/ Probably the best MF site on the web, this page is maintained by an Indian Asst. Professor at a Japanese university. This site is updated on a regular basis and has lots of excellent resources and links to other sites.

Inventory of Micro finance Institutions in South Asia

http://www-esd.worldbank.org/html A comprehensive listing of MFIs in South Asia, as compiled by the Sustainable Banking Project of the World Bank.

FAO Rural Finance Homepage

http://www.fao.org/waicent/faoinfo/agmcult/ags/AGSM/ruralfin.htm The Food and Agriculture Organization, part of the UN family, has its own page dedicated to rural finance with a good list of research studies that can be directly down-loaded.

The Consultative Group on the Alleviation of Poverty

http://www.worldbank.org/html/cgap/cgap.htm CGAP is a program of the World Bank that has funded a number of cutting edge research studies in the MF sector. Some of these studies are directly available here: others are summarised in the useful CGAP newsletter "Focus", which can also be down loaded.

Micro enterprise Innovations Project

http://www.mip.org/ MIP is the USAID Project which covers the MF sector. A wealth of information can be found here on a wide number of projects, institutions, and research studies, etc. related to the micro-finance and micro-enterprise sectors.

The Official Grameen Bank Homepage

http:www.citechco.net/grameen/index.html. Just as it claims: the "official" homepage of the Grameen Bank, with information on the original "bank for the poor" in Bangladesh and its various replicators around the world.

Micro credit Summit Homepage

http://www.microcreditsummit.org/ This homepage covers the high-profile work of the Micro-Credit Summit which has successfully placed micro-credit activities on the international agenda. Although criticised by some for embracing the Grameen Bank model with almost religious fervour, the Summit plays a useful networking and lobbying role.

Association of Asian Confederation of Credit Unions (ACCU)

http://www.aaccu.org/index.html This is the homepage of the confederation that unites the savings and credit co-operatives (credit unions) of all Asia.

Ohio State University, Rural Finance Programme

http://www.ageon.ag.ohio.state.edu/ruralfinance OSU is the pre-eminent academic institution in the field of rural finance. It has recently put a lot of effort into developing this homepage which describes their assorted research and teaching programs. However, there have been complaints that the heavy use of graphics on this site makes it very slow to access from overseas.

MYRADA: NGO Under-taking Micro Credit Initiatives in South India

http://www.myrada.org The homepage of one of the more successful NGOs active in the MF sector in this region. The page explains how Myrada operates and provides profiles and case studies.
