U.S. -Baltic Foundation (USBF) was established in 1990 to promote the political, economic and social development of the Baltics. The coordinated USBF structure provides a mechanism for Americans and American institutions to become involved and contribute to the development of the Baltic States. The Foundation has evolved considerably as the three national offices have become independent program entities. U.S. -Baltic Foundation Eesti Sihtasutus (USBF-Estonia) operates as an independent Estonian organization since 1998. U.S. -Baltic Foundation Eesti Sihtasutus is a non-governmental, not-for-profit organization. The mission of the foundation is to advocate, design and establish effective programs an public policies that promote the political, economic and social development of Estonian society and enhance the well-being of the Estonian people.U.S. -Baltic Foundation Eesti Sihtasutus operates by "building the bridges at both ends" in its cooperation with networks of citizens, specialists, donors and other program support resources in Estonia and the United States.
Foundation activity focuses primarily on three major areas:
- civil society development
- third sector development
- community development.
