Since its establishment in December 1997, the Institute for Modernity has been involved in projects concerning the development of civil society at the municipal level in Bulgaria's capital Sofia, as well as Varna and others major cities. The institute's projects focus on the deficits in the development of the civil society and civil culture, in particular problems of effective communication between different institutions - state, municipals, NGOs - and citizens.
