'Forte' Press Club Founded in Georgia
The non-governmental, nonprofit Journalists’ International Press Club Forte was recently registered by the Ministry of Justice of Georgia. Its nine primary goals are:
- to promote professional and business relations between Georgian and foreign media organizations;
- to support the development of an independent mass media and “open informational space” in the
region;
- to arrange professional training for journalists by organizing seminars and workshops;
- to cooperate with local and foreign mass media organizations in the fields of printing, broadcasting
and information distribution;
- to participate in joint projects aimed at the formation of a modern and democratic society in Georgia.
- to stand for the constitutional rights of local journalists;
- to achieve high standards in mass media function, which guarantee the public free and timely access
to objective and full information;
- to establish the basis for integration into an international informational system; and
- to contribute to democratic change and the establishment of a free society.
"To achieve these goals and to conduct our activities in this regard" states a recent message from Forte
to CCSI, "demands big experience, which we unfortunately do not have." Forte is seeking cooperation
with organizations in the West in order to accelerate their acquisition of such experience. For further
