VOICE International


VOICE International is an information clearinghouse and technical assistance network which operates a program of research, information dissemination, and referrals for NGOs in Central and Eastern Europe and the Newly Independent States (NIS). Over the past three years, VOICE has supplied over 1,400 pieces of material to requesting organizations in nine countries in the region, and has provided an additional number of referrals and linkages to information and technical assistance sources in the U.S. and other Western countries.

Materials relating to policy, practice, programs and institution-building are provided to Central and East European and NIS information centers and NGOs for free and to U.S. organizations for a fee.

Through a donation from Family Service America, VOICE is able to offer limited quantities of "Interviewing, Its Principles and Methods," by Annett Garrett. This has been used as a text in U.S. schools of social work and translated into 20 languages. VOICE copies are in English.

"The Legal Status of Women in the New Independent States of the Former Soviet Union" (May 1994), by Janet Hunt-McCool and Lisa Granik. Available from VOICE, which "recommends it to all NGOs concerned with the status of women." Also available from:

"Newsletter of the Bernard van Leer Foundation"
Published quarterly, each issue explores a theme related to early childhood development. The van Leer Foundation also offers a variety of other materials on education and social development opportunities for children, in book form and video, either free or at low cost.
