Materials from the
American Association for the Advancement of Science
The AAAS Directorate for Science and Policy Programs has produced a list of 22 publications of its Scientific Freedom, Responsibility and Law program, most of which are available from AAAS, some at no charge. The topics are of universal importance and therefore many of these publications might be of interest to scientists and technical workers in Eastern Europe and the former Soviet Union. Some examples from the list follow:
- "Breaking from the Past: Setting New Ground Rules for Scientific Freedom and Responsibility in East-Central Europe and the Russian Federation." Cave and Frankel, 1992. No charge.
- "Good Science and Responsible Scientists: Meeting the Challenge of Fraud and Misconduct in Science." Teich and Frankel, 1992. No charge.
- "Professional Ethics Report." Quarterly newsletter of the AAAS Committee on Scientific Freedom and Responsibility and the Professional Society Ethics Group. No charge.
- "Striking a Balance: National Security and Scientific Freedom." Relyea (ed.), 1985. $8.00
- "Science, Engineering and Ethics: State-of-the-Art and Future Directions." Frankel (ed.), 1988. No charge.
A complete list of the books (4.9Kb) available from the AAAS Scientific Freedom, Responsibility & Law Program exists on the AAAS gopher. The URL is:
