The deadlines for the Ukraine and Russia Rule of Law grants program, that we
profiled in the June issue of this newsletter, have been extended. The grant
programs are administered by the Rule of Law Consortium (ARD/Checchi Joint
Venture) under the auspices of USAID.
The Ukraine and Russia grants programs are soliciting proposals for "action- oriented" projects carried out by U.S. and Ukrainian and Russian organizations that strengthen core legal institutions and processes in order to support general legal reform, encourage an orderly transition to a market economy, protect human rights, and limit the potential for arbitrary exercise of governmental power.
Proposals are to be from U.S. non-profit organizations in co-partnership with corresponding entities in Ukraine and Russia. Proposals may originate from NIS organizations, but must be administered by the U.S. partner. Most awards will range from $5,000 to $100,000.
The application deadline for the Ukraine Grants Program is November 25, 1994. The deadline for the Russian Grants Program is December 2, 1994. For the Russia program project proposals in the Ekaterinburg, Irkutsk, Moscow, St. Petersburg, Saratov and Volgograd region are strongly encouraged.
