TASIC: Teacher and Student International Communication

This program was profiled for the June 1994 issue of the CCSI Newsletter
Civil Society ... East and West. The program is no longer in operation.

The objective of TASIC (Teacher and Student International Communication) is to enable U.S. teachers and students, ages 6-18, to find and communicate directly with their peers around the world, focusing on Europe and the NIS. TASIC helps distribute modems and train teachers in Russia on the uses of electronic mail to make communication with their peers abroad faster and more reliable. It is in the process of creating an on-line database of teachers in the former Soviet Union and hopes to add 500 NIS secondary schools to the on-line international community by September 1995.
