ICCH was established in 1990 to respond to the needs of children in Eastern Europe and the NIS. In 1992 ICCH received a $1.5 million 2-year grant from USAID to establish a demonstration neonatal intensive care unit at Children's Hospital #1 in Moscow. Physicians, nurses, and faculty from Children's Hospital of the King's Daughters in Norfolk, Virginia and the Eastern Virginia Medical School will provide more than 1,000 hours of training in infant care. Russian physicians and nurses will also come to Norfolk for training in neonatology. Other aspects of the project include: providing medical equipment and supplies, establishing a regional training program in neonatal resuscitation, developing an outreach program that will include a mobile clinic, and
developing an educational center and library for newborn medicine.
