Peace Corps

Get the latest information on the Peace Corp in the US-NIS Organizations section of the Website.

By the end of 1993 the Peace Corps expects to have more than 500 Americans serving throughout the NIS, either teaching English or serving as small business volunteers. The business program will focus on establishing small business centers in regional capitals and economic centers. The centers will be staffed by 4-5 Peace Corps Volunteers and will in turn support the work of an additional 8-12 Volunteers assigned to smaller towns and cities in the surrounding region. Volunteers will focus on 3 major areas: one-on-one training and technical assistance in business and management skills; advisory assistance to local governments in public administration and economic development; and professional training to the emerging commercial bank sector. The regional small business centers expect to build libraries of business education and training materials. They also will assist in developing curricula for local business schools.

Volunteers should have a degree in business, agribusiness, or agricultural economics, plus 3 years of relevant experience. The average age of Peace Corps Volunteers in the NIS is 41. The majority have more than 5 years experience and 50% have an MBA. Volunteers receive 3 months of intensive language instruction. For more information, call (800) 424-8580, ext. 2293.
