In 1992 the NFF launched its American Volunteers for International Development (AVID) program to place American volunteers with experience in public administration, economic development, and journalism in Eastern Europe, Russia, and Ukraine. In its first year 32 AVID volunteers were placed throughout the region, including in Vilnius, Lithuania, Moscow, Nizhny Novgorod, and St. Petersburg, Russia, and Kiev and Lviv, Ukraine. AVID volunteers must have a minimum of two years professional experience and commit to at least 3 months of service. AVID is particularly looking for volunteers with experience in economic development, advertising sales, venture capital formation, privatization, banking and finance, and defense industry conversion.
