First conference: "Investitionen und Rechtsharmonisierung im gesamteuropäischen Warenverkehr" (Investment Policies and Legal Harmonization in European Trade) Berlin, October 7-10, 1999

Eligibility: Young Lawyers and Economists (under the age of 35)

The conference will be held in Berlin from the 7th-10th October 1999. The conference primarily focuses on the legal aspects of the political and economic transition in Central and Eastern Europe. Topics in October will be:
Indirect Investment Control through Company Law (Forum I)
Investment Control through TRIM's and National Policy (Forum II)
Exchange Control between Protectionism and Free Movement of Capital (Forum III).

The conference is part of a series of conferences, run under the general banner 'EUROPE BEYOND THE UNION'. It aims to bring together young lawyers from Eastern and Western Europe. They will have the opportunity to obtain profound insight into the problems concerning the transformation processes while communicating their own experiences and knowledge.

EUROPE BEYOND THE UNION will be conducted by the non-profit organization Cooperation for Peace Germany e. V. (CfP) in collaboration with the Frankfurt Institute of Transformation Studies (F. I. T.). CfP focuses on mostly academic and educational programs involving Central and Eastern Europe; the F. I. T. is an interdisciplinary research center at the Europa-Universität Viadrina in Frankfurt (Oder) concentrating on the transformation processes of the societies and economic systems of Central and Eastern Europe.

Application Requirements:
1. Age
The conference is open to persons aged 35 and younger.
2. Language of Application
All applicants must have excellent German-language skills to ensure that they can participate actively in discussions in German. Knowledge of English will be helpful.
3. Costs DM 550,-.
