THEMES:
In this 2nd Annual World Conference WE (Woman and Earth) conclude our marking of the 50th Anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights with an expanded meaning of human rights for women and what women value -- ecological health. In this program we would like our speakers to address one or more of the following themes -- 1. Economically and Ecologically sustainable solutions that empower women and promote a positive transformation into a partnership society in the new millennium. Where applicable, please address to his the project you are currently involved in from your community and how this can be applied to the global community and particularly to the emerging democracies in the former Soviet Union. 2. For our Nordic sisters or experts, given that this year's venue is Finland, we would like you to consider sharing with our global audience whether and to what extent your economic and ecological model has benefitted women, ways in which you would reform this model, and whether and to what extent this model may be beneficial to women in the former Soviet Union and other emerging democracies. 3. What would be in your agenda for expanding the meaning of human rights for women and/or ecological health and how can women participate in and contribute to creating this agenda? 4. We also welcome proposals for cultural presentations/performance (can be, but not limited to, a theme of linking east-west) -- THere are opportunities during opening and closing ceremonies and evening cultural presentations.
PROPOSALS -- Please provide us with a title of your proposed presentation, the language you would give this presentation in (our Conference language will be English so if you are able to give this in English, it would be appreciated but otherwise we will find translators -- or is you know of others attending who could help, please let us know) and a summary/synopsis -- no greater than 2 double spaced pages of what you would like to talk about. In addition, please indicate:
a) whether you think your presentation is suited for our general audience/plenary session (In this case you would be part of a panel and your presentation would be restricted to 15 to 30 minutes depending on the size of the panel) or as a workshop/small-sized audience (greater time flexibility) or both. You may also organize a panel or workshop with others and/or propose to serve as facilitator/moderator. Please be specific as to what you would like to propose.
b) whether you would require any equipment for your presentation.
c) whether you would like to participate in or lead an expanded discussion/meetings or site visits focused on your specific area or areas of interest.
Note: We offer all presenters the opportunity for their presentation to be published. In addition, in the case of a situation which lends itself to dialogue/audience interaction or an expanded look at your topic of interest, we would welcome any resolutions or calls for actions that result.
