Posting No. T-00-10365-DBCoordinate outreach to K-12 and post-secondary educators for University of Michigan Center for Russian and East European Studies (CREES), a U.S. Department of Education-designated Title VI National Resource Center on Russia, Eastern Europe, and Eurasia. Manage collaborative educator outreach activities in REES with UM schools and programs, the Ann Arbor Public Schools, and regional schools, colleges, and universities. Administer CREES's Title VI-supported Post-secondary Curriculum Development Program (prepare advertising, review applications, coordinate processing of awards and visits to UM). Respond to inquiries from educators about available curriculum materials on Eastern Europe and the former Soviet Union. Develop internet resources for educators on this region. Collaborate with other UM area centers and programs to establish a Teachers' Advisory Board and organize 1-2 meetings per year. Design and carry out teachers workshops (coordinate with other UM area centers and programs in selection of topic and program logistics, identify relevant area-focused presenters and curriculum materials, supervise student assistant). Organize on-campus language pedagogy workshop for Graduate Student Instructors and teachers of Russian at area colleges and high schools (in collaboration with the Slavic Department). Coordinate preparation and editing of copy for CREES News (2 issues per year), and The Journal of the International Institute (2-3 issues per year). Draft and edit CREES brochure, press releases, and other publicity materials. Develop, maintain, and edit CREES website.
Minimum Qualifications:
Master's degree (preferably in Education) with a focus on Russian and East European Studies, or equivalent combination of education and professional experience in Russian and East European Studies. Teaching experience. Familiarity with issues of education and program administration. Excellent organizational skills. Excellent oral and written communication skills; demonstrated working skills with database and word-processing software (Microsoft Office) and electronic mail; knowledge of desktop publishing and HTML (web design).
Desired Qualifications:
Ph.D. in Education or other field with specialization in Russian and East European Studies. Proficiency in at least one language of the region. Two years University experience with knowledge of University policies, rules and administrative procedures. Experience living in the Former Soviet Union or Eastern Europe. Editorial experience.
