The Baikal Institute for Environment and Natural Resources use offers the following summer projects in lake Baikal area.Children's camp "Shida." Work with children. We expect 50-60 children for each of summer seasons, they are all Russian. Accomodation is in the wooden houses on the bank of lake Baikal (three prs./room). Payment for food & accomodation in Irkutsk & Shida is $100 for two weeks. Travel expenses to Irkutsk is volunteer's responsibility. We don't cover expenses for visa because you are supposed to get visa in the Russian embassy in your country.
Children's camp "Seagull." The site is in a suburb of Irkutsk, 4 kms from cities on a coast of the Ushakovka river. Works on restoration of children's camp and pedagogical works with children engaged in study of ecology and a wood facilities (age 12-14 years). Accommodation: wooden houses, 3-4 prs. in a room)
As the additional program: excursion program--trip to lake Baikal (70 kms away from Irkutsk), visiting of an open-air museum of wooden architecture, 47 kms away from Irkutsk, city-tour.
It is necessary to have: a sleeping bag, field form of clothes and footwear for campaigns, jacket in a case of a rain. Time of realization of camp: August, 1-31. Payment: $100 for two weeks. Payment of the tickets up to Irkutsk, residing in Irkutsk - volunteer's responsibility.
Olkhon Island--largest island on lake Baikal. Bus, then ferry or boat (5-6 hours). It is social-ecological camp. The study of influence of tourist activity on the nature of an island and local population (realization of sociological interrogations) will be carried out. It is necessary to have sleeping bag, field form of clothes, tent. Residing in tents.
The features of weather: night temperatures of air are much lower than in day time. The travel expences to Irkutsk, accommodation in Irkutsk are the volunteer's responsibility. Payment: $100 for 2 weeks.
