New Position - Save The Children Fund

Regional Educational Advisor, Central & Eastern Europe (Balkans)

Location: Skopje, Macedonia

Salary: £24,244

Description: Save the Children (UK) has a growing body of work on children's education worldwide. This post will form part of a team of education advisers based in regions who will collectively be responsible for implementing Save the Children's education strategy.

Our country-based programs work to support government education providers to be more flexible and creative in situations of economic and political transitions. This post will play a key role in improving the effectiveness of our work in education. We are looking for someone who can mentor staff on a range of active learning methods and community strategies for education, and stimulate a style of work in which children are active participants at all stages. The role will provide the professional leadership to find innovative ways of improving education for disadvantaged children in a range
of complex situations and will also keep a watching brief on developments in education in the region, identifying issues on which Save the Children should respond. The post will also take a lead in promoting positive change in education through influencing governments, donors, UN agencies and NGOs.

We are looking for applicants with:
- A degree in education/education management and knowledge of issues of education delivery in developing countries
- Considerable experience (minimum 3 years but preferably longer) managing education projects and programs in  countries in economic and political transition
- Strong interpersonal and facilitation skills; proven representation, influencing and negotiation skills;
- Fluent spoken and written English.
- Knowledge of the region and an awareness of cultural dimensions that affect education.

Grade 2
Salary: £24,244
Period: 12 months (possible extension to 25 months)
Status: Accompanied
Location: Skopje, Macedonia
Required From: May/June 2001 onwards
