The Russian and East European Center at the University of Illinois provides an interesting opportunity for researchers every summer. Essentially, the Center offers full access to the University of Illinois Library, and in many cases provides free housing to selected scholars and graduate students. U.S. list members and visiting international list members may want to contact the Center for more information.
Interested Scholars and Graduate Students:
You are cordially invited to attend the 1998 Summer Research Laboratory on Russia and Eastern Europe at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. This program, which began in 1973, provides an opportunity for scholars and dissertation-stage graduate students to benefit from the resources of the University of Illinois Library, seek advice from the staff of the Slavic and East European Library, and to meet with colleagues to discuss current research. Associateships will be available for any period of time between June 15 and August 7, 1998.
Eligibility Criteria:
All Associates will receive visiting faculty privileges in the Library, including free access to the stack, the use of a carrel, and the right to check out books and bound periodicals.
Housing:
Lab Associates who are U.S. citizens or permanent residents are eligible to receive a housing award for free housing at the Illini Tower (a local campus dormitory). A limited number of housing awards will be given to non-U.S. citizens who apply before April 1, 1998. The Russian and East European Center will be happy to make housing reservation s at the Illini Tower for Lab Associates who do not receive the housing award and wish to stay on campus at their own expense.
