The Rotary Foundation is pleased to announce the availability of applications for 1999-2000 Ambassadorial Scholarships for study in another country. The scholarships are intended to further international understanding between people of different countries, and are for use at a study institution assigned by the Trustees of The Rotary Foundation. Scholars are expected to be outstanding ambassadors of goodwill through appearances before Rotary clubs and civic organizations in the host country and upon their return home.
ACADEMIC-YEAR AMBASSADORIAL SCHOLARSHIPS will provide funding for round-trip transportation, tuition fees, room, board, and books for one academic year of study, not to exceed US$23,000 or equivalent. They may be used for undergraduate, graduate, or vocational study.
MULTI-YEAR AMBASSADORIAL SCHOLARSHIPS are intended to assist in the cost of two or three years of degree-oriented study by providing a flat grant of US$11,000 or its equivalent per year.
CULTURAL AMBASSADORIAL SCHOLARSHIPS fund either three or six months of intensive language study and cultural immersion in a country where the target language is spoken. Applications will be considered for study of Arabic, English, French, German, Hebrew, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Mandarin Chinese, Polish, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish, Swahili, and Swedish.
ELIGIBILITY: Scholarships are available to individuals who have completed two years of university work or professional experience and who are citizens of a country in which there are Rotary clubs. Spouses and descendants of Rotarians may not apply. The scholarship is not intended for students who are already studying abroad.
FOR MORE INFORMATION: Please see the Rotary home page at http://www.rotary.org, where we have answers to frequently asked questions about Rotary Scholarships. Students also have the option of downloading a leaflet and application directly from our web site.
Because scholarship availability is determined at the local level, however, prospective applicants must contact their local Rotary club for more information on availability and deadlines. Please note that not all Rotary districts will offer scholar ships; nor will all types of scholarships necessarily be available in a given year. Local application deadlines are set by individual clubs between March and July 1998 for 1999-2000 awards.
Specific questions regarding eligibility or program statistics may be directed to Sharon Gerlach using the information provided above.
