New York, New YorkThe Open Society Institute is a private operating and grantmaking foundation that promotes the development of open societies around the world. OSI is part of an informal network of more than 30 autonomous nonprofit foundations and other organizations created and funded by philanthropist George Soros in Central and Eastern Europe, the former Soviet Union, Guatemala, Haiti, and South Africa, as well as in the United States. In the United States, programs have been developed in the areas of criminal justice, drug policy, immigration, and death and dying, and new initiatives are under way in the areas of education and youth development, reproductive health and rights, media and journalism and professional ethics in law and medicine.
The Office of Grants Management oversees the legal and administrative compliance for the grant activity of the Open Society Institute. Working under the supervision of the Director of Grants Management, the Grants Officer serves the foundation's needs for compliance and information by managing the daily flow of grant-related documentation for OSI's grants to organizations.
Responsibilities:
Qualifications:
- Work with and train program and finance staff to ensure compliance with legal and administrative standards for grant-giving process from receipt and review of an application to award and monitoring of a grant.
- Assist in the initial receipt of applications
- Review grant evaluation process to ensure legal and administrative compliance
- Prepare, issue and monitor grant agreements
- Prepare, issue and monitor grant payment requests
- Issue tax documentation and management reports on grant-giving activity and grantees
- Evaluate monthly and quarterly spending trends and reporting issues in conjunction with program and accounting staff
- Monitor grantee reporting requirements and evaluate grantee narrative and financial reports to ensure administrative compliance.
- Maintain quality of information in the grant tracking database
- Maintain the central grant library
- Special projects as assigned by the Director
Salary: Commensurate with experience. Excellent benefits package.
- BA required
- Non-profit and Federal grant management and accounting experience preferred
- Strong computer skills: Microsoft Word and Excel required; Microsoft Access or similar database experience a plus
- Excellent analytical, written, verbal and organizational skills Commitment to working as a member of a team
- Flexible, self-starter with ability to set and meet goals
