On September 16, 1999 the United States Information Agency released the Request for Proposals for the FY 2000 NIS College and University Partnerships Program (NISCUPP).NISCUPP awards grants of up to $300,000 to US colleges or universities for the purpose of establishing/strengthening linkages with counterparts from the New Independent States (Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Kazakstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Russia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Ukraine, and Uzbekistan). Eligible disiciplines for partnerships include: business, law, journalism, education, and the economic and social sciences. Grant funds can be used for expenses such as the exchange of faculty and staff and the purchase or development of educational materials.
