Two week summer course, 26 June (Monday) - 7 July (Friday) 2000.

1. Day. Monday, 26 June 2000.

10.00 - 12.00 Registration. Passport Registration of Foreigners. Room 606.

12.00 - 13.30 Introduction to the programme, introduction of the course leaders and participants (Dr. Marina A. Shishkina, Associate Professor, Dean of the School of Journalism; Nina G. Boykova, Ph.D., Associate Professor, Director of the Mass Media Center; Dmitry A. Ruschin, Ph.D., Associate Professor, Director of the International Summer School on Russian Media; Tatyana V. Vasilyeva, Ph.D., Associate Professor, Deputy Director of the MMC, St. Petersburg State University). Room 303.

13.30 - 14.30 Welcome lunch.

14.30 - 14.50 Journalism building tour (Ludmila P. Gromova, Professor).

15.00 - 18.00 City Sightseeing Bus Tour. Start from J-School building at 15:00.

2. Day. Tuesday, 27 June 2000.

10.00 - 11.30 Lecture: Mass Media in the Context of the Political Life in Russia (Dr. Sergey G. Korkonosenko, Professor, Chair of the Sociology of Journalism Department, School of Journalism, St. Petersburg State University). Room 402.

11.30 - 12.00 Coffee / Tea Break.

12.00 - 13.30 Lecture: Information and Psychological Media Wars (Vladilen I. Kuzin, Ph.D., Assistant Professor, Sociology of Journalism Department, School of Journalism, St. Petersburg State University). Room 402.

13.30 - 14.30 Lunch.

14.30 Visit to St. Petersburg Daily Newspaper "Sankt-Peterburgskiye Vedomosty" (Fontanka, 59). Meeting at 15:30.

3. Day. Wednesday, 28 July 2000.

10.00- 11.30 Lecture: Modern Technologies of Political Advertising during Russian Electoral Campaigns (Dr. Dmitry P. Gavra, Professor, Scholar Supervisor of the Centre of Sociological Research, Faculty of Sociology, St. Petersburg State University). Room 402.

11.30 - 12.00 Coffee / Tea Break.

12.00 - 13.30 Lecture: Negative and "Black" Political Public Relations (Dr. Dmitry Gavra). Room 402.

13.30 - 14.30 Lunch.

14.30 Visit to St. Petersburg Union of Journalists and National Press Institute (formerly Russian-American Press and Information Center) (Nevsky Prospect, 70). Meeting at 15:30.

4. Day. Thursday, 29 June 2000.

10.00 - 11.30 Lecture: Parliamentarian Journalism in the System of Power (Igor N. Tkhagushev, Ph.D., Associate Professor, Department of TV and Radio, Faculty of Journalism, Moscow State University). Room 402.

11.30 - 12.00 Coffee / Tea Break.

12.00 - 13.30 Lecture: Language and Power (Dr. Vladimir I. Kon'kov, Professor, Chair of the Speech Activity and the Language of Mass Communication Department, School of Journalism, St. Petersburg State University). Room 402.

13.30 - 14.30 Lunch.

14.30 Visit to the State Hermitage Museum. Excursions will start at 15:30.

5. Day. Friday, 30 June 2000.

10.00 - 11.30 Lecture: Mass Media and Governor's Elections in St. Petersburg (Alexander N. Afanasyev, Head of the Press Service of the Governor of St. Petersburg). Room 402.

11.30 - 12.00 Coffee / Tea Break.

12.00 - 13.30 Lecture: Censorship in Russia: History and Modern Situation (Dr. Ludmila P. Gromova, Professor, History of Journalism Department, School of Journalism, St. Petersburg State University). Room 402.

13.30 - 14.30 Lunch.

14.30 Visit to St. Petersburg Agency for Journalism Investigations (AIR) of Andrey Konstantinov (Ulitsa Zodchego Rossi, 1/3, Entrance 6). Meeting with Andrey Konstantinov and Andrey Potapenko at 15.30.
