Position: Project Coordinator
Location: Atyrau, Kazakhstan
Start Date: July 19, 1999
Length of Contract: 2 years
Salary: $18,000 - $20,000/year + benefitsISAR-Central Asia, will be opening an NGO resource center in Atyrau, Kazakhstan in summer 1999. The resource center will: 1) Provide technical support to the Atyrau NGO community in the form of computer, email, and Internet access; 2) Serve as a general information center for the NGO community in Atyrau; 3) Serve as an environmental information center for NGOs in the surrounding countries of the Caspian Basin; 4) Create and distribute a Caspian Environmental News Bulletin; 5) Provide specialized trainings to the Atyrau NGO community; 6) Manage a small grants program for NGOs in the Atyrau oblast doing environmental projects; 7) Manage a cooperative grants program for NGOs from Atyrau working with other NGOs in the Caspian Basin on environmental projects.
Requirements:
US citizen
Russian fluency
Experience working in the Former Soviet Union (FSU), preferably in Central Asia
Experience working with Non Governmental Organizations (NGOs), preferably in the FSU
Experience in managing projects and budgets
Computer skills (Microsoft Word, Excel, email, Internet)Desired Qualifications:
Bachelors' Degree in Environmental Science, related degree or related experience
Familiarity with environmental problems of the Caspian Region
Supervisory experience
Strong communication skillsResponsibilities:
Ensure that ISAR's Atyrau office effectively functions as an NGO Resource Center
Supervise the creation and distribution of an international Environmental NGO Bulletin
Ensure that ISAR's Atyrau office effectively administers and manages the grant programs
Supervise the training program, including the development, planning and implementation of trainings for environmental NGOs
Supervise and support Atyrau office staff
Maintain open communication with ISAR's Central Asia office in Almaty, USAID/CAR mission representatives in Atyrau, local staff, Atyrau business community, and the public
