From November 29th to December 3rd, 1999, the State University--Higher School of Economics, the Moscow School of Human Rights, and the Office of the Commissioner on Human Rights in the Russian Federation will hold in Moscow the 9th International Session: "Culture of Peace, Human Rights-- Contents and Methods of Education"This is a excellent training opportunity for secondary school teachers, higher education professors, instructors on social sciences, lecturers, managers of educational institutions, and NGO representatives, to prepare themselves for teaching human rights, civics, democracy and peace courses. Famous specialists in the sphere of law, political science, pedagogy, etc., representing different Russian and foreign organizations will take part in the Session.
The following problems will be discussed:
During the Session participants will visit secondary schools and universities of Moscow, plus state and non-governmental organizations, where you will become acquainted with their work in these problems.
- civic education: experience of open societies - problems of Russia;
- international norms on human rights, the rights of the child, and mechanisms of their protection;
- human rights in the democratic and post-totalitarian states;
- human rights, culture of peace and civic education in the system of school and university education (aims, contents and methods of education and upbringing);
- human rights and conflicts: ways of resolution;
- human rights and economical development;
- innovations in human rights doctrine.
Where appropriate, those interested in attending may propose presentations; if this interests you, please indicate the theme of your report when you contact us.
Training and literature are free of charge for participants. Unfortunately we are not able to pay for your travel or accomodations in Russia.
