Description: The Program Coordination Intern will work with the Deputy Director supporting a Leadership Training program to be held in Kazakhstan in October, 1999; researching energy conservation technologies and educational materials for projects in Ukraine; and supporting the administrative tasks of the Center for Safe Energy.
Project Description: The Center for Safe Energy collaborates with Russian environmental activists in the promotion of energy conservation and the development of alternative energy technologies, and provides leadership training for Russian activists.
Tasks
-- Organize visit of CSE staff to Kazakhstan for Leadership Training: Assist in the development of the program; Arrange travel logistics: transportation and visas; Communicate with Kazakh participants via email
-- Assist with the research, development, and editing of grants for projects in Russia and the NIS
-- Update database and spreadsheet files, including financial bookkeeping
-- Administrative assistance: Correspondence, email, faxing, filing
-- Brief Translations: Russian-English and English-Russian
Required Qualifications
-- Basic Russian skills: reading, writing, speaking
-- Previous experience with Russians and Russian culture essential
-- Computer Skills: Knowledge of FileMaker, Eudora, Microsoft Word and Excel
-- Excellent editing and communication skills in English
-- Self-motivation and independence
Desired Qualifications
-- Ability to speak, read, and write Russian at advanced level
-- Non-profit experience
The goals of the Brower Legacy Leaders Program are to train activists for careers in environmental advocacy and develop leadership skills, to assist EII projects with their staffing needs, and to prepare interns to assist the broader Bay Area community and national environmental movement.
