Request from "DANA" in Ukraine

CCSI has recently received a request for partners from DANA, a regional women's association in Mykolayiv, Ukraine.

DANA is seeking partners in Poland and the U.S. for an economic development project to be organized under the Polish American Ukrainian Cooperation Initiative. PAUCI seeks to study successful democracy and economic development projects in Poland and apply the lessons learned to projects in Ukraine. DANA is looking for partners for a project in the area of macro economic policy and the development of small and medium-sized businesses.

DANA was established in 1995 in Mykolayiv. Initially it engaged in charitable work, collecting food and clothing for the poor and disabled and providing support for single mothers. In 1998 DANA established a crisis center for women who suffer from violence which helped more than 1,900 women in the first few months. It has also worked with the media to raise public interest in the issue of trafficking of women and has helped to introduce a course on human rights in local schools. In early 1999 DANA reported that it had more than 800 volunteers.
