New Position - The Center for Nonproliferation Studies

Position: Program Coordinator and Research Associate in the area of nonproliferation affairs to work in  CNS branch office in Almaty, Kazakhstan. Along with two other office staff members in Almaty, this individual will conduct a range of nonproliferation training, outreach, and research activities throughout the newly independent states (NIS) of the former Soviet Union. Duties include: organization of periodic nonproliferation conferences involving NIS officials, academics, industry officials, and journalists; coordination of research projects with affiliated NIS scholars and NGO experts; identification of candidates for CNS nonproliferation training programs in the NIS, in Washington and in Monterey; the conduct of individual and group research projects on NIS nonproliferation issues; networking and maintaining contacts with U.S., other Western, and NIS organizations in the region; supervision of office finances; and representation of the office and the Center at conferences throughout the NIS. Qualifications for the position include: a desire to live and work in the NIS, native English-language writing and speaking ability; near-fluent spoken and written knowledge of the Russian language; experience working or studying in the former Soviet Union; knowledge of
nonproliferation issues; possession of an M.A. in a relevant discipline (or equivalent work experience); and some organizational experience.
