Belarus Campaigner (in country)
ARTICLE 19 is a London-based organisation working to promote freedom of expression world-wide. We are looking for a campaigner to work in Minsk for a year in co-operation with our in-country partners, the Belarusian Association of Journalists (BAJ).
Job Description:
Qualifications and Skills Needed:
- to undertake campaigning activities to defend, promote and protect freedom of expression
- to work closely with BAJ to enhance their capacity (and where possible that of other local activists) to promote and protect freedom of expression
- to document abuses of freedom of expressoin
- to campaign for amendments to Belarusian laws affecting freedom of expression
- to campaign against restrictions of freedom of expression at both a legal and practical level (by organising meetings, press conferences, writing press releases and protest letters; observing trials etc.)

- Written and spoken fluency in both English and Russian
- Experience of working for a non-governmental organisation
- Experience of campaigning internationally
- Familiarity of human rights issues and mechanisms, as well as media freedom issues
- Experience with dealing with the media; giving interviews
- A high level of tact and diplomacy and ability to work as part of a team
