Date Available: July 1, 2000
Title: Editorial and Program Intern
Responsible to: FSAFLEX Alumni Coordinator, American Councils for International Education: ACTR/ACCELS, Moscow

American Councils for International Education: ACTR/ACCELS administers the Freedom Support Act Future Leaders Exchange (FSAFLEX), an exchange program for high school students from the NIS sponsored by the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs of the US State Department. Participants of the program live in American host families and study in US high schools for one academic year. The FSAFLEX Alumni Office works with these students when they return to their home countries, organizing volunteer, career development, and democracy-building activities. There are currently over 6,800 alumni throughout the NIS and the Alumni Office is looking for assistance to support this dynamic program.

Position Description

An assistant is needed to compile and edit monthly alumni activity reports submitted to the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs. The intern helps edit the quarterly alumni newsletter The Bradley Herald, maintain correspondence with the 21 ACTR/ACCELS field offices, and plan and implement activities with Moscow alumni. The position offers a chance to improve writing and editing skills, learn about NGOs in the NIS, and work with bright ambitious young people. Travel is not required but may occasionally be possible for an intern who is interested. This position offers real responsibility, a chance to improve Russian language skills, interesting work with great young Russians and a well-written letter of recommendation.

Position Requirements

This internship has a stipend of $150 per month. If the intern can receive university credit for an internship, we will be happy to fill out any necessary documents. This position does not offer Russian visa support and only candidates who are in or coming to Moscow soon will be considered.
