Cottonwood Foundation Grants Grants are available for grassroots organizations internationally that meet the following criteria: protect the environment, promote cultural diversity, empower people to meet their basic needs, and rely on volunteer efforts.  Please note, these grants are not available for individuals or universities.  There is no formal deadline for 2001. MacArthur Foundation Grants in the Former Soviet Union Grants are available for individuals in the independent states of the former Soviet Union, and for special project of organizations and institutions in Russia and the newly independent states.  For Russian language application materials contact [email protected]. Wildlife Conservation Society Grant The Request-for-Proposal (RFP) is a small grants program administered by WCS-International that is designed to support individual field research projects that share our philosophy, approach and conservation focus.  Deadline: July 1, 2001 Posted April 25, 2001.

Fellowships--research in former Soviet Union (US scholars) American Councils for International Education: ACTR/ACCELS is currently accepting applications for the Regional Scholar Exchange Program. Deadline: February 15, 2001 Posted January 31, 2001.

Legal Fellowship Program for Women Attorneys The Network of East-West Women (NEWW) announces the 2001 Legal Fellowship Program for recently graduated women attorneys from Central and Eastern Europe, the Newly Independent States and the Russian Federation (CEE/NIS/RF) interested in pursuing a career in women's human rights advocacy in CEE/NIS/RF. East European Studies Grant Opportunities The Woodrow Wilson Center has scholarships available to American citizens (or permanent residents) in the early stages of their academic careers (generally before tenure but after Ph.D.) or American scholars whose careers have been interrupted or delayed. Univ. of Chicago Fellowships for Human Rights Workers The Human Rights Program at the University of Chicago solicits applications for up to two residential fellowships from leading human rights activists in or outside of the U.S. Posted January 31, 2001.
