There has been created and is supported and enriched the biggest
collection of actinomycetes, bacteria, archebacteria, yeast and
micelial fungi, and genetically modified microorganisms in Russia.
Guides and Catalogues of microorganisms are created and published.
Created are Collection funds and working collections of
microorganisms:
On the basis of studies of oxidative and energetic metabolism of
yeast there was created a conception about biochemical mechanism of
overproduction of some metabolites. The results provided the basis for
development of new technologies of producing valuable metabolites
(citric,iso-citric and other acids) and enzymes (alcoholdehydrogenase,
alcoholoxidase, etc.)
A theory explaining material-energetic balance of microbial
biosynthesis products accumulation and producers' growth was created,
which has fundamental significance and is the basis for technological
calculation of biosynthesis processes. Biochemical characteristics of
these processes, recommended by IUPAC, are introduced for use in
microbiology. For the first time the conception of zone of double
limit of growth of microorganisms is formulated.
A new mechanism for removal of detoxificated tellure forms from
cells is found; peculiarities of structure-functional organization of
cells of Pseudomonas genus tolerant to high concentrations of heavy
metals. The results are providing basis for development of
biotechnical technology for the metals removing from environment.
The work on obtaining a complete collection of cloned genes of
amber-supressor tRNA of T5 bacteriophage is finished. The collection
obtained is used for works in protein engineering for rapid check of
influence of directed aminoacid substitutions on the functional
activity of proteins when studying biogenesis and secretion of base
phosphotase of E.coli.
For the first time there has been found a major structure and
metabolism difference between polyphosphates in different organells
(nucleus, vakuole,cell membrane, cytozole) of cells of eucariotic
organisms. Pecularities of poliphosphate metabolism in one or another
organelle are closely connected with its main function.
There has been created cientific and technological base for
directed construction of microbial associations (including granulated
consortiums of anaerobic bacteria) with programmed characteristics for
development of effective technologies for environment cleaning
(cleaning facilities, industrial production, places polluted by
oil-products).
Unique methods and preparations are created and also
experimental-industrial technologies for their production are
developed to solve practical problems of ecology and medicine:

MAIN RESEARCH DIRECTIONS
INSTITUTE STRUCTURE
The Institute is a member of the Russian-American Consortium for
techological, educational and economical development. The participants
from the American side are Washington (Pullman) and California (Berke-
ley and Riverside) State Universities. The purpose of the Consortium
is to work under the project "Integration of Science and education and
technology transfer for sustainable economic development and envi-
ronment protection of the South-Central region of the European Rus-
sia".
