Since its beginning in January of 1994, we have considered the Friends and Partners email listserver to be the "real heart" of this project. Indeed, our initial web site was designed primarily to attract people to the email listserver. Friends and Partners is all about getting Russians and Americans and others around the world talking and this listserver is our primary means of starting conversations.

The list is not a noisy one. We moderate all postings and send out two or three digests each week (at least, we try). In addition to fielding inquiries for information, for Pen Pals, for travel suggestions, etc., we also try to post information about funding and exchange opportunities, special events, new Internet resources, etc.

Without question, the most rewarding part of our work with F&P is when someone tells us that as a result of something posted on the listserver, they received twenty responses, now have a pen pal, or developed a friendship important to them.
