Congratultions on another wonderful venture! I will be very pleased to share this resource with the Chinese language and social studies students at Enloe High School. Our students have enjoyed communicating with their keypals in Beijing. I look forward to going to China next year as part of North Carolina Center for International Understanding teacher exchange.

Wishing you success in this exciting new Friends and Partners project! I'll be visiting China (Johns Hopkins ALumini sponsored trip to include the Hopkins Center in Nanjing) in September and will be a visitor to this site to enchance my travels!

It boggles the mind that after devoting five years to pioneering F&P to bridge bluegrass and tundra, here you go again. I wish you all the best in doing it again, with as much utility and graciousness as before. I have to warm up breakfast for the baby now, but -- soon as we're done --- I'm going to go look fot this "China" place on a map! :-)

bye, /ken

We sponsor a "foster child" in China through Plan International (Childreach, 155 Plan Way, Warwick, RI 02886-1099 USA) We recieved our first letter from Han Xue yesterday! It would be wonderful to visit China one day and to see this special child. My husband was born in Shanghai, but immigrated to Taiwan as a small child. He traveled to the United States to join his father when he was just seven;at that time the youngest child to fly without an escort from the Far East! He was even kidnapped for 24 hours at one stop-over (But, much like the Ransom of Red Chief, he was released unharmed!) We would welcome Email exchanges with anyone from China. Perhaps someday we'll get to visit such a beautiful country! Good Luck to All! Virginia

This combines two of my favorite interests: China and the Internet! Having lived in Sichuan province for two years, I am always eager to learn more about China and to share experiences with both native Chinese and others who have visited. While our governments take jabs at each other, let's continue to develop friendships that not even they can undermine!

Looks like a good thing for our two countries could possibly start with effort and determination from both sides. A union of this magnitude with peace and harmony as our goals would be mutually beneficial for everyone. I wish F & P the best of fortune!

Friends and Partners China is that kind of fantastic chain that was missing for people of good will, living somewhere on this planet. Your project is a great idea, especially since it is based on your former experience of building friendship relation between yesterdays enemies of the Western countries and the former USSR.

We, from Blue Sky Organization, also brought since the beginning of the early nineties, our modest contribution to greet this new era of friendship between people of good will, with a project involving collaboration between Russian people and ourselves Europeans. In 1992, we were the first individuals to cross Europe from the West to far in the East, over a distance of 4000 kilometres. With a crew of two persons, hanging under a microlight (a kind of kite using a small motorised propeller), we took off from the Atlantic borders and reached the heart of the former USSR in 22 stages. Each landing, especially in Ukraine and Russia has been a powerful and unbelievable means of bringing people together, that were separated during tenth of years by lack of understanding. We met hundreds of enthusiastic people (from the citizen at the country to the highest authorities in the city) who did everything they could to help us with this project that everybody thought was impossible. And we succeeded!

Now, we are ready, after 2 years preparation with Chinese friends, to cross China from the South to the North, with the same bird we used in Russia. But we still need some logistic and financial support to start that odyssey across the 5000 years old China. We are deeply convinced that our project will catch a lot of attention, and that it is a powerful means to bring people together.

Our web site http://www.dad.be/bluesky learns you more about it.

Friends and Partners China shows us the way for building understanding and exchange with the people and the culture of China.

Success to you.

I knew , or prayed, that one day this site would be born. It is part of the new revolution that will kick the butts of the polititions out in the cold and leave the people free to do the things that spell freedom throughout the world. This and other sites will make all of us pals, and one simply does not fight with his friends, especially a friend with which he is doing business. I need a responsible Chinese person to be my friend and work with me throughout China. Preferable aviation minded older person. [email protected] or fax usa 915-563-5833.

Transition back to the western culture is aided a great deal by things like "Friends and Partners".

I have had two teaching experiences in Hangzhou and the last year in Beijing. I miss friends and the culture very much so I appreciate this "bridge" back!

Hello friends,

I've been to China once and since then my only dream is to get back - but this time prepared better and with friends there to help me through.

So if anybody feels to have a good friend in Poland, please do not hesitate to answer.

I have been facinated by the Chinese cultue for some years. I am hoping to visit China in the not too distant future. I will certainly be keeping an eye on this site.

My particular intrest is to see Turpan. I say the depression on a map and ever since it has become an obsession with me.

Of course getting there would be half the fun.

It's fabulous to see such communal efforts being made to bring friends together - it is a tribute to the power of the Internet.

But I have a question: do any of you in China feel restricted by the surfing-limitations imposed by your government. Or do you find the rules necessary to safeguard the integrity of your political beliefs.

There is no doubt that the Net can be a subversive tool of corruption, but somehow, you can't help question whether it isn't also the perfect incarnation of 'freedom of speech'.

What do you think?

Since my first visit to China in 1986 I have never been the same. My intrigue for the country and especially its people has created adventures and experiences that very few Americans have known.

I am looking forward to making new friends in China and elsewhere. My business takes me to China several times each year.

Congratulations on your fine web site!

Hi new friends !!! I almost cried when I found this site....it so so good to see all of the caring people who have joined. When it comes right down to it, everybody is looking for the same things....love, friendship, peace, security and understanding. I believe that the internet is the route to world peace. All we need is to get to know our neighbors in other parts of the world, learn to understand our differences, and most of all, share our cultures, dreams and love. As I have visited sites from other countries I have noticed that the things people all over the world find humorous are universal....as well as the things we fear, and desire. We need to share smiles, encourage the hopeless, sympathize with those that are hurting, and realize we are all the same inside. Peace and love to everyone :)

I'm a high school Latin and English teacher who is looking forward to going to Chine this coming summer with an archaeology program. Will be visiting Beijing, Shanghai, Xian and elsewhere. Looking for information because some sources say visitors must have an invitation to go, others seem to imply freely traveling around. What do you say? Although I am part of a program, my husgand won't be and may join me later. How easy will that be fore him?

going to China this summer as part of an archaeol- ogy program. Will arrive in Shanghai about July 6 then on to Xian and end up in Beijing. Want to go to Tibet after the program. Hear one needs an invitation to visit China. Though I will be part of the program my husband won't, but would like to join me at the end. Is it possible to freely travel or necessary to be with a group? Is it difficult to travel around on one's own? We don't speak Chinese...English and satisfactory French.

Congratulations on your excellent and fascinating website. You are doing such important work, and I commend you and your whole organization for the responsible and meaningful contributions you are making.

My interest is keen for both Russia and China. I have been an amateur "China Watcher" since the late 1950s. For severl years in the Czech and Slovak Republics I have acted as "trade commissioner" for Hong Kong as the resident consultant for the Hong Kong Trade Development Council. More importantly today as a founding director of the Czech-Chinese Chamber of Commerce we are doing our best to stimulate trade between the Chinese and the Czechs.

I would be interested in hearing from anyone involved with trade or cultural relations with Russia and China. Many good wishes and congratulations on your wonderful site. Peter Magurean III

FPChina further consolidates the Chinese people's rightful place in the family of nations. FPChina helps to herald yet another glorious page in the current chapter of China's modern history that began with the infamous Opium War of the 1840s and cointinued through the eventual return of Hong Kong last year to our beloved Motherland. Glory to the founding fathers and the builders of the new China, the People's Republic. Thank you FPChina for providing us with the vehicle to further consolidate the Chinese people's position on this small planet of ours.

Hi - I just found your web page and I think it is wonderful . I know that you are just developing so it is exciting to watch something such as this grow . I was in Harbin in August 1997 and have several friends there. I hope that you develop a partner there in Harbin . I went there as part of a initial television exchange between a Houston Christian television station and Harbin television station. I was told that I was the first *religious* representative to be brought to the P.R.C. by the govenment of China .After the Presidential exchanges of our two countries maybe there will be more of this type of activity.

I once did a simple breathing exercise that slowly relaxed my breathing muscle (the diaphragm) and changed me! I've made a "complete-on-one-page" description, and I want to show it to all nations he world, for free...all nations! So far, in their languages (so far it's only in English). I want people who have web sites (especially t'ai chi sites) to add it! Let's teach...! Patrick

Just stepped inadvertantly to that website. Don't know, if it's going to lead me to somewhere, but just give it a try. Anyway, not everybody is given this magnificent view I have here right out of my window: the Chinese banner from the Chinese Consulate in Strasbourg/France surrounded by magical white snow. Gorgeous view!!!

Great site. Just read Jung Chang's "Wild Swans" and looking to begin a dialogue with local Chinese citizens about life in China in the past 10 years. This should be a wonderful start for a guy as far away as Houston, Texas.

Just like Mike M. above, I have also just read Wild Swans by Jung Chang. This was a powerful and emotional book about life in China during the 20th century.

I was curious about the historical accuracy of the book. Have any of you out there that have first hand experience with China, and have read the book have any comments on its historical accuracy? If so, I would appreciate an email.

Thanks.

FP's Russia section gave me the wonderful opportunity to visit Lake Baikal this summer. I'm sure the new China section will create many similar opportunities for many people.

I like to get valuable advices and knowleges on how to manage a public sector, like a local government,or non-profit organization. China is facing its most crucial era of further reforming both in economic and political fields. Many economists and entrepreneurs have paid much more attention to economy than to the managerial skills and strategy in operating a public sector. Without an highly efficient government, the economy can't develope and grow in a constant and stable rate. I want to learn something useful in such fields to contribute to my country-China.

As I scrolled down, I was beginning to think there would be no room for me to sign the guestbook. I had no idea there would be so much interest from around the world.

After having hosted a Scientist from Beijing in our home for 10 months, I naturally have a great interest in China and the culture (and not just the delicious food).

Hope to be kept abreast of the lastest happenings.
